Ensures welding quality and safety

Why is welding machine calibration so important?

Calibration of welding machines is important to ensure the quality control and safety of welding work in all industries, such as manufacturing, oil & gas or construction. If the welding machine does not maintain accurate output, it may lead to insufficient joint strength, dimensional defects, or serious structural defects.

Hence, regular calibration contributes greatly to ensuring safety and maintaining product quality, reducing risk, as well as building customer trust and company credibility.

Features of our welding machine calibration service:

We provide welding machine calibration services in accordance with international standards. With our extensive experience and advanced technology collaborating with welding expert, we can support the calibration of the following welding models:

  • Arc welding machine (MMA)
  • TIG welding machine
  • MIG/MAG welding machine

Calibration items include output voltage, output current, duty cycle, timer settings, etc., and are accurately measured and adjusted using standard instruments that are traceable to national standards.

Issuing calibration certificates and audit support:

For all calibrations, we issue a Validation Certificate containing the following information:

  • Date of calibration and next recommended date
  • Measurement results (actual value and tolerance range)
  • Standards used and their traceability information
  • Name of technical staff and certification information

This Validation Certificate has been used to comply with various audits and customer requests.

We provide the following flexible support according to the needs of your needs:

  • On-site calibration or at the Lab
  • Equipment collection and return service (depend on location and quantity)

Calibration of welding machines is a preventive measure before problems occur.

Our team performs a comprehensive weld inspection based on your welding procedure specification (WPS) and relevant standards to ensure these parameters are within acceptable ranges.

In order to maintain welding quality and minimize product risk, we recommend calibration once a year.

If you are unsure which welding machines need to be calibrated or would like immediate support, please feel free to contact us.

We will propose the optimal calibration plan regardless of your industry or size.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
Welding Machine Calibration

The digital display shows what the machine’s internal circuitry is being told to do, not necessarily what is actually happening at the welding arc. Over time, components can drift, and internal sensors can lose accuracy. Calibration ensures that the value on the screen matches the true output, correcting any drift that has occurred.

The interval depends on usage and requirements, but a common baseline is annually. You should calibrate more frequently if:

  • The machine is in heavy or continuous use.
  • It’s used in a critical application (e.g., pressure vessels, structural steel).
  • It has been subjected to physical shock or extreme environments.
  • Your quality standard or customer contract specifies a shorter interval.

A calibration typically checks:

  • Output Amperage (A) at various setpoints.
  • Output Voltage (V) at various setpoints and load conditions.

For a basic check, you can, but it is not a substitute for formal calibration.

A standard multimeter cannot handle the high, fluctuating currents of a welding arc. Proper calibration requires a specialized welding calibrator or process analyzer that can accurately measure dynamic welding parameters under load and provide a traceable certificate.

It means your machine’s output does not match the reference standard within acceptable limits. For example, when set to 150 Amps, it might actually be outputting 162 Amps.

  • Immediately: Stop using the machine for production work.
  • Investigate: Determine if the inaccurate machine produced any non-conforming welds that need to be addressed.
  • Adjust: Have a qualified technician adjust the machine back to its specified tolerances.

Indirectly, yes. Most welding procedure specifications (WPS) require that all equipment used to qualify the procedure and perform the work is properly maintained and validated. If your machine is out of calibration, any welds made for a test or production could be considered invalid, potentially voiding the welder’s certification work on that machine.
